And The Dish Ran Away With The Spoon

Why is it that when you feel like eating anything but chicken, you end up eating in a place that specialises in chicken?

Last week Demis and I planned to go out for dinner. We walked over to the Five Ways in Paddington and began to assess our options. Very quickly our options diminished.

We didn't want pizza as I was on a temporary diet (and therefore Demis couldn't eat pizza), we couldn't eat at the fish place because they only accepted cash (honestly who carries cash these days?), I refused to eat Thai (still scarred from caterpillar incident), I didn't feel like Spanish (as I was planning on cooking a paella the next night) and we ruled out a few of the more expensive restaurants as we wanted to have a less-expensive week.

So that left one place (well there was always the supermarket) which we had no choice but to elect - And The Dish Ran Away with the Spoon - which specialised in organic chicken (I was not at all excited about this seeing chicken was going to be the prime ingredient of my paella).

Actually if you are in the mood or a lover of chicken it is the perfect place to go to. They have various styles of chicken available (roasts, fried, burgers, risottos, pastas, salads, pad thai, pies, schnitzels...you name it they will have it) as well as other fresh foods (but not many - it really is a chicken place) and you can get it cheaply to take away or have there (there are only a few informal tables).

What's more - it's good chicken. You can really taste the quality and effort that has gone towards the preparation. There were no fatty or chewy white bits and it even tasted like real fresh chicken. The side ingredients were also equally as impressive - real organic cheese, fresh vegetables and even (as Demis so kindly exclaimed in delight) real pineapple (as opposed to canned pineapple) in the burger.

Of course, that doesn't mean I enjoyed my meal (I ordered the Japanese chicken salad which had too much sesame for my particular taste and thus I couldn't finish it...but the quality of the chicken was truly superior), but that is expected when you end up eating something you weren't in the mood for.

Demis on the other hand said that his chicken burger was the most amazing burger that he had ever tried and that even if he had eaten 3 more of them, it still wouldn't have been enough.

If there's one thing worse that eating something you could have potentially loved if wasn't tainted by the fact that you weren't in the mood for it - it's hearing that your dining companion is thoroughly enjoying themselves and experiencing no similar reactions. I guess in this case it was only my dish that ran away with the spoon.
